Petra Nyendick, Executive Director
Originally from Toronto, Petra Nyendick moved to Indiana in 2001, living in Indianapolis and Terre Haute. After realizing the need for a commercial art gallery in Terre Haute, Petra became founding director of 333 Visual Art Gallery. The success of that gallery and attached working studio morphed into the launch of Halcyon Contemporary Art Gallery at the Sheldon Swope Art Museum. Petra’s success as owner/operator of Halcyon and director of the Swope Art Museum’s Summer Youth Art Program led to her opportunity to become Executive Director of Indiana State University’s Community School of the Arts.
While in Indiana, she was a member of Arts Indiana’s Regional Advisory Council, and a member of the board of directors of various arts organizations: The Terre Haute Children’s Choir, Blues at the Crossroads Festival, and Wabash Valley Art Space. At Art Spaces, Petra also served as Chair of the Site Selection and Acquisition Committee.
Most recently, Petra served as the Executive Director of Silence: Guelph’s Portal For Adventurous New Sound Events, an innovative arts centre dedicated to presenting diverse, challenging, sustainable and accessible art and musical practices. While in Guelph, Petra served on the Guelph Arts Council board, chairing the Communications Committee.
These positions are the most recent facet in a life’s work in art; a long, strong involvement in the arts as a successful artist, agent and arts organizer. She brings to the NPCC her committed vision of the guild of the creative community and its importance to society as a whole.
Petra received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors at York University in Toronto and a Master of Fine Arts with distinction at Indiana State University.
Cory Therrien, Daytime Customer Service
"An evening art class led me to Neilson Park Creative Centre, where I am now the Day Time Customer Service Representative. After taking many art workshops and classes across the GTA, I took a class offered by the Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto-based at Neilson Park. I am now a newbie member of the Toronto and Hamilton calligraphy guilds.
I graduated with a degree in Office Administration and a certificate in Marketing from Ryerson University. My past work experience included different roles in marketing. Some of my responsibilities included purchasing and supervising the distribution of marketing materials, reporting on brand and product line pricing and margins and coordinating the company’s trade show participation throughout Canada. Some of my other responsibilities included being the co-op fund administrator and assisting in budget planning.
I am currently taking graphic design courses at Humber College through their continuing education program."
Jenny Chen, Gallery Coordinator
Jenny Chen is an artist and arts administrator who graduated from OCAD University with a major in Drawing and Painting and a minor in Illustration. Her personal art practice involves an on-going exploration of personal identity and experiences through illustrative imagery. She has exhibited her work at Ryerson Image Centre; OCADu’s Student Gallery and has published her illustrations in Loose Leaf magazine.
She has previously worked as a Marketing and Curatorial Intern at Artscape of Daniels Spectrum where she curated her first large-scale exhibition. She also sits on the gallery committee at Lakeshore Arts and wishes to continue her involvement in the arts through volunteer work.
Claudia Di Nucci, Programs Coordinator
Claudia Di Nucci values NPCC's purpose to promote the appreciation and study of the arts within its community. She is a long time resident of the Etobicoke community, where she is involved with many groups. Claudia is a member of KUT 7; a collective of artists of all artistic disciplines, functioning under the auspices of the Milkweed Collective. She also volunteers her time as a Board member of Franklin Carmichael Art Group. She is a recent graduate in Arts Administration and Cultural Management studies and holds an Honours Bachelor in Art History. Claudia participates in arts and culture as a practising artist, volunteer, instructor and administrator. She is enthusiastic about maintaining inclusive arts environments.
Simone Sicard, Operations Manager
Simone Sicard graduated from OCADU in 2008 with a BFA majoring in printmaking. Since that time Simone has become a professional Not-for-Profit administrator with close to a decade of experience in a variety of roles and organizations. Her experience spans a number of fields including event planning, volunteer management, box office (ticketing), customer service leadership, and insurance. She believes in lifelong learning and that the most important asset of any organization has is its people. “When people are passionate and fulfilled by the work that they do, organizations benefit and those communities grow to reflect that passion.” She is currently studying Project Management at Humber College.
Simone maintains her own passion for creating through a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, quilting, spinning, and knitting. When she is not in the office or studio she can also be found training for half marathons and volunteering her time with community organizations.
