IN OUR GALLERIES
Luminous – Explorations in Colour and Light
Exhibition Duration: September 18 – October 6, 2017
Reception: Sunday, September 24 from 12:00 – 4:00pm
Luminous – Explorations in Colour and Light presents work by the ColourShift Abstract Art Collective, who are a group of artists committed to interpreting the world around them and imagining it in new and different ways.
As abstract painters, they seek to convey through colour, a sense of magic and luminosity. Thin impasto blocks of pigment scraped onto the canvas to tell a sort of visual narrative. Whether dappled light through abstracted leaves, filtered rays through a murky ocean, or purely abstracted shadows on flat colour planes, for this exhibition they seek to portray the luminous. They each use colour and line to convey energy, motion and if successful, a brilliant sense of light. Whether from within, reflected, or from an external source, their paintings seek to explore light in all of its brilliant forms.
The Forest and The Tree
Exhibition Duration: September 19 – October 6, 2017
The Forest and the Tree feature artwork by Brenda Sturino. Nature is an integral part of Sturino’s life, especially her never-ending love of the “tree”.
Printmaking has allowed her many variations using an array of techniques to explore, experience and discover. This exhibition reflects the beauty, character and diversity of this image recurring in her art.
An accomplished artist/teacher, Sturino completed an Honours BA in Visual Art and Education from the University of Western Ontario, London. Additional art training in various media followed at OCAD, Haliburton School of Art, Neilson Park Creative Centre, Open Studio, Hamilton Print Studio and Japanese Paper Place.
