WHAT IS CATCHING JOY?
Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) invites artists working in all creative disciplines to submit an application for an opportunity to participate in an upcoming exhibition, Catching Joy. The exhibition will tell the story of Joy by Corinne Averiss through visual representation. 35 Artists will be given a line from the story which will be used as the inspiration to create an artwork. This creates a unique opportunity for collective storytelling by presenting a diverse range of practices, which will be on display during Culture Days 2018.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or in person at the NPCC front desk by Sunday, August 12. 35 artists will be selected through a random draw to participate in the exhibition. All applicants will be informed on Monday, August 13 by email regarding the status of their application. Selected artists will be assigned a section from the story Joy, which they can interpret however they wish and used to create an artwork through direct representation or abstraction. The artwork must be finished by Sunday, September 9.

NPCC is excited to be a part of Culture Days, a national celebration of Canadian culture and aims to:
FOSTER appreciation and support of the artistic and cultural life that is lived, created and expressed across the country in urban, suburban and rural areas alike;
PROMOTE direct interaction between creators and citizens, as a key to increasing understanding and appreciation of art and culture; and
AFFIRM that every citizen is the guardian of the cultural life of his, her or their community.
Join us for Culture Days on September 29, 30 where NPCC will provide free activities for the whole family.

IMPORTANT DATES
EXHIBITION DURATION: September 11 – September 30, 2018
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Sunday, August 12, 2018
SELECTED ARTIST NOTIFIED: Monday, August 13, 2018 (by Email, no phone calls please)
ARTWORK DROP OFF: Sunday, September 9, 2018 9:30 - 10:30am
EXHIBITION CELEBRATION: Saturday, September 29 1:00 - 3: 00pm
ARTWORK PICK-UP: Sunday, September 30, 2018 4:00 - 5:00 pm

Artists who fail to pick up their work by the designated time will be charged a Storage Fee of $15 per day per piece


RULES OF PARTICIPATION

  • Applications from NPCC members and Non (not yet) members are welcomed.
  • Applicants can be of any age and can create in any medium they prefer.
  • Artwork created must not exceed 28” on any side. The weight of 2D artwork that needs to be wall-hung must not exceed 50lbs.
  • Artwork must be ready to hang or displayed. Paintings and framed artwork must be properly wired according to weight. Each artwork must have temporary labels attached to it indicating the artist’s name, title of artwork, medium and price.
  • Artists who plan to work in video must provide their own presentation devices.
  • NPCC is not responsible for the loss or damage of exhibiting artwork(s).
  • Artworks may be photographed unless written notification to the contrary is received from the artist.
  • Artwork must be appropriate for an audience of all ages. NPCC reserves the right to refuse any artwork that deems to be offensive or inappropriate for this exhibition.

SALE OF ART
Sales of artwork are handled by NPCC front desk and artists will be notified when a work is sold.
Purchasers of artwork are expected to pick up the artwork during the dismantle date and time.
Payment will be issued by cheque for all sold work approximately 14 days after the end of the show, less 15% commission. Cheques will be distributed by Canada Post. HST will be remitted to all artists on submission of their HST registration number, otherwise HST will be reported and remitted by NPCC.

Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) invites young artists to participate in imagineTHAT!, the first exhibition highlighting the vibrant artworks of young creators from NPCC. This invitation is open to anyone who has participated in our children or teen programming from September 2017. Artwork of all media will be accepted and entries are not juried. The exhibition will also feature an collaborative installation piece created during our camp program.

 

RULES OF PARTICIPATION

  • Participant must have enrolled in NPCC children and teen programming from September 2017 – September 2018.
  • Each participant can enter up to two artwork.

NPCC does not have storage space for artwork that is not picked up on the last exhibition date.

 

SUBMISSION CHECKLIST

1) Image of artwork: Artwork must be of high quality, 300 dpi, in Jpeg format and no more      than 1MB in size. Label your images as follows: Lastname_Firstname_Title. 
 
2) Completed copy of the submission form.
