Paint and Process: Beyond Pollock is an active studio approach to a contemporary art practice. Celebrating its 20th year, this class offers intermediate and advanced level artists the opportunity to direct their artistic development and provides an opportunity to access professional coaching and mentoring. Each session begins with a 30 minute introduction where selected abstract and non-objective artists will be introduced, stimulating class discussions and individual reflection. In this course you will learn to use visual tools such as sighting, measuring, ways of seeing negative space and more in order to enhance and build on your observational drawing skills. We will explore a variety of subject matter such as the elements of drawing - Line, Tone, Texture, Shape, Form, Colour, and Composition. Explore a variety of drawing media and techniques both traditional, and contemporary. Individual expression is encouraged in a supportive learning environment. Learn new skills and techniques to create expressive portraits, while working from a live model. Beginning with drawing, we will use a variety of techniques and exercises such as: blind contour, tonal, gestural, measuring, and graphics. Then moving to colour and wet media (acrylic), we will learn underpainting, glazing, and impasto techniques. Botanical Illustration is the ideal course for gardeners, naturalists, plant-lovers, and artists of all skill levels. Learn the varied history and techniques of botanical illustration, sharpen your observational skills, and see the natural world through fresh eyes. Participants will learn how to make accurate images of plants in coloured pencil, illustration pen, and watercolour, and gain a new perspective on everyday encounters with plants. Fleece to Yarn

An in-depth series that will take you on a journey from fleece to yarn. Fleece will be sourced from a local farm, the Shepherd will visit to talk about the sheep, shearing, and fleece qualities. Participants will learn how to select, wash, process, spin, and dye fleece in order to make something lovely and warm. The time between weekly sessions will allow participants to complete some work on their own. No prior experience needed, just an interest in learning how to make yarn from this wonderful fibre called wool! Materials are included.
