Underpinning every successful piece of art is a successful application of composition: whether intentional, intuited, or by sheer luck. Improve the composition of your art by learning to intentionally apply principles such as contrast, balance, symmetry, scale, tension, position, numbers and proportion. The basics of colour will be reviewed and applied synergistically with design aspects to achieve the results you desire in your work. This course will demystify composition and colour through discussion of masterworks old and new, applied exercises, and individual design critiques of student's work. To inspire and encourage your personal creative exploration, you will see physical samples of Kim’s own work plus examples from other contemporary artists who are working in photo-based mixed media.

No photography or digital work will be done during class; students can do as much or as little of that as they like in advance to prepare materials to work with in-class.  Material List.
