Neilson Park Creative Centre is pleased to announce a group exhibition titled Lingering, featuring the works of eleven Toronto-based newcomer artists. Through diverse mediums ranging from photography, sculptural works, painting, video installations and performance art, each artist responds to the theme of lingering and what it means to survive, to wait, to stand still, or to remain in an elongated state of suspension for a new life, a new process, and new memories. The project is produced with the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.

Suspended between different worlds, Islands that are spiraling around one another

In their in-between-ness lies tension, bittersweet memories and a lasting melancholia

Each island is embossed with the flow of tides and the markings of time

From the exploration of memories and their representation in Marzieh M. Miri and Mohamed Meer’s photo works, to experiencing memories that live in our bones and being through Laurent Good, Nima Arabi and Sami Oritz’ paintings. The symbolism that comes with objects and memorabilia and takes us back to places and people with Dilys Ching’s work. While listening to words that break the silence and bring our awareness to the here and now through Niya Addullahi’s work and Saghar Beheshti and Moha Tavakolizadeh’s performance.

Tightly hugged between the walls, Sahar Alamgir traces back her steps, connects her fabrics together, framing the natural light of the summer days we await for so long. As time passes and the engravings take shape we ponder in their details as does Azadeh Pirazimian’s drawing and sculpture.

Once again we float and once again we linger.
