Welcome to a creative opportunity to engage with the urban landscape as muse. The subject may convey a dichotomy between architecture and nature, with particular focus on human-made structures and the triumph of nature and its potential to soften the aesthetic. You may also take inspiration from the geometric beauty and the dramatic interplay of light and shadow that comes with Brutalist design. In this class, work from instructor provided references or research your own examples to perhaps create a montage of imagery, bringing out your inner sustainable architect or commentator on the ‘design for the future’ thinking that inspired a significant growth spurt in the Toronto built environment between the 1950’s and 1980’s. Join Steve Rose, MFA for this stimulating class that invites the use of photography, collage, and mixed media in addition to drawing and painting. For a materials list, please check our website.
