This three-session course explores the use of gesture, colour, and composition to evoke mood or emotion. Through practical exercises, discussions, and critiques, participants will gain an understanding of expressionist approaches to painting. The study component of these classes will look at painters from the tradition of expressionism (Van Gogh, Kokoschka, Munch) and contemporary painters working in that idiom today (Leon Kossoff, Cecily Brown, and Canadas John Brown).
