Join this unique and creative exploration of the portrait with a focus on colour, mixed media and a combination of drawing, painting, and collage. Expressionism is a very unusual approach and experience in artistic movements. It is an artistic force that is intense, highly personal, and essentially offers the opportunity to utilize a subject in a way which prioritizes the emotional impact over accurate depiction. Emphasis will be placed on personal discovery, approach, and execution beyond the traditional, with plenty of individual dialogue and artistic mentoring to encourage play and risk. Source imagery will be from photographs of your choice, from any source wish, magazines, newspapers, advertising, art history, online sites, books etc. Instructor Steve Rose, MFA will begin the day with a brief look at examples and a series of short exercises designed to motivate and jumpstart your creativity.
