Expand your understanding of painting by experimenting with a different paint media each week throughout this eye-opening six-week session! This class is an entryway for students to learn about how artists have challenged traditional boundaries and advanced the understanding of what painting can be. Considering the paintings of artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Sean Scully, Denys Thomasos, and Peter Doig, participants will be encouraged to experiment in a variety of painting media over six weeks. Practical exercises, group critiques, and studying how artists convey concepts through colour, mark, and texture, will enable participants to gain a nuanced understanding of the diverse approaches that have influenced contemporary painting. Beginners and artists of all levels are welcome. Alistair Magee, MFA is an internationally collected artist and a contributor to permanent public art in Toronto.
