Letter writing is an experience for both the reader and the writer that technology cannot replace. Join us this fall for two free community sessions of putting pen to paper and your heart and history into the hands of a cherished family member or friend. Express gratitude, tell a story or share your thoughts, feelings and well wishes in a most wonderful and meaningful way.
Ferry Chhabra, letter writing enthusiast and passionate protector of the art is on a mission to reinvigorate pathways to creating meaningful relationships through writing. Each session will open with inspiring prompts or with the reading of a famous letter or two, to set the tone. Sessions will allow for sharing and will include templates or format examples for those who are looking for guidance.
A hand-written note stands out as not only a skill of self-expression or a message of honest intention, it brings people joy! It is a window into the heart, which has now been exalted to the category of ‘special gift’ simply due to the time it takes to write it. It is a compass that points to those who are truly close to us. With the speed that we all exchange information, loaded with abbreviations and standardized pictograms to express emotion, we can lose touch with understanding where one sits in the life of another. Everyone seems to get the same emoji treatment. Meaningful relationships develop with the investment of time. A child’s dedication to assembling their thoughts and taking the time to put them on paper, to shape not only letters and spell words but to shape a relationship and history with a family member or friend, is a treasure. Adults chronicling the passing of time and experiences through letters allows for an unmatched insight into the humanity of the writers.
As the air turns cooler and crisp, and leaves turn from green to hues of golden and red, let us all gather, take our time to reflect, connect and rediscover the beauty of the written word. Slow down, collect your thoughts and scan your feelings. Allow them to un-blur. Regardless of the words, reclaim the art.
