Paper Chandeliers, ‘Pajaki’ – Traditional Polish Design

Saturday, October 17, 2026
12:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Sessions: 1 Saturday
Instructor: Paula Hartman
Level: Ages 11 - 15
Location: At Centre

In this workshop with professional paper chandelier and mobile artist, Paula Hartman, participants will discover the art of making paper mobiles, known as pajaki—a beautiful folk tradition from Poland dating back to the 18th century. Historically crafted by women in rural communities, these intricate decorations were created for special occasions and holidays. Made from sustainable materials like natural rye straw and paper, pajaki sway gently with the slightest breeze, adding a touch of magic to any space. Participants will learn how to construct a base, develop a harmonious color palette, and master various paper flower-making techniques. This meditative and joyful craft offers a wonderful opportunity to slow down, and connect with a rich cultural heritage. No experience needed—just come and have fun. By the end, you’ll leave with a beautiful handmade piece to hang in your room (and probably a new creative obsession). A purchase of a kit will be required to participate. Kit fee: $15 per person. Includes: straw pieces, metal rings, thread, paper punchers, needles, and templates. Paper will be provided by NPCC.

$43.20 (with HST $48.82)
