Geometric Freeform

John Parsons

August 4 to August 28, 2026

Location: Parkview Gallery

Presented by: John Parsons

Reception: Saturday, August 8, 2 pm – 4 pm

At the end of January 2025, John Parsons dove deeply into doing artwork. World events were so depressing that he needed to divert his attention.

Between January 26, 2025 and February 28, 2026, he created more than 140 works of art. Guess what? You guessed it… he had a storage problem.

John Parsons, I Tried to Give Mondrian Some Tips on Colour but He Wouldn't Look

He has had four exhibitions in the past at the Neilson Park Creative Centre. He has enjoyed those experiences, and so the thought occurred to him… put on a show of his latest works and offer them to the public with a $200 donation to the NPCC. That person will receive a $200 tax receipt and can claim one art piece. Donate $500 and you can claim three art pieces. There are 49 pieces in this exhibit; he has titled the exhibit Geometric Freeform.

During Covid-19, he created a game that he could play with family as they settled into their personal bubble. He called the game Double Bubbles. It is a game with 32 coloured tiles that are chosen from a box at random and placed on a 64-square playing board. The object of the game is to create colour-connected straights and colour-connected squares to score points. No two games ever end with the same pattern. They end up with a coloured QR pattern. After a game is completed, he photographs the pattern and uses it as a basis for his artistic imagination. Below is an example… “Private Space” 24” x 18.
