In this hands-on workshop, Paula Hartman, Toronto-based visual artist specializing in kinetic paper sculpture and community-based art will guide participants through the playful and meditative world of balancing mobiles—kinetic sculptures that gently move with air and light. Inspired by the work of Alexander Calder, you’ll learn how to transform simple materials like wire and paper into a dynamic, floating artwork. Paula will walk you step-by-step through the process, from shaping wire to finding that delicate point of balance where everything comes alive. This workshop is about more than just technique—it’s an invitation to slow down, experiment, and trust your creative instincts. As you build your mobile, you’ll explore how movement, colour, and composition can come together in a way that feels both intuitive and deeply satisfying. No prior experience is needed! This class requires the purchase of a kit directly form the instructor at the start of the session, $10, cash accepted. Kit includes paper, wire, pliers and wire cutters for use in class, needles, and jump rings.
