In this workshop with master calligrapher Mark Lurz, participants will create a beautiful expression of a long-time family phrase, a wall-worthy quote, or a meaningful affirmation. This calligraphy session will introduce beginners and experienced writers to the Cursive Italic script and for those familiar with pen and ink, Mark can also teach you Gothic lettering. This course aims at giving you confident skills writing birthday- or well wishing cards, book dedications, Valentine cards or any personal project you would like to tackle. Mark served his apprenticeship as a retoucher in a gravure printing shop in Switzerland. While attending the Arts & Craft School of Basel, his calligraphic skills were recognized and encouraged. Once in Canada, he attended courses and workshops given by international experts and since 1972 has been teaching calligraphy. He is a founding member of the Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto and has executed prestigious work for the city of Toronto and the film industry. For a materials list, please check our website.
