In honour of Asian Heritage Month, we are excited to offer a special Kintsugi and Furoshiki workshop with Shuichi. Having trained in Japan for nearly two decades, he is one of the leading Kintsugi artists in the world. Rooted in traditional beliefs and techniques, his work is of exceptionally high quality and has earned him a strong reputation among museums, antique collectors, and individuals in need of restoration services. As a dedicated ambassador of authentic Japanese culture, he also shares his knowledge through lectures and workshops, inspiring a deeper appreciation for Kintsugi’s philosophy worldwide. In this workshop, participants will enjoy a wonderful lecture and a hands-on introduction to Furoshiki, traditional Japanese wrapping cloths used to wrap, carry, protect, and present objects. Participants will learn several basic wrapping methods and practice wrapping items of different shapes. Cloths will be provided for use but students are also permitted to bring their own, 1.5m square is the ideal size. In Japan, there has long been a culture of caring for a single object and continuing to use it over time. This gave rise to various repair techniques, including kintsugi, as well as everyday practices for protecting, carrying, and reusing objects, such as furoshiki wrapping. Through this program, participants will explore sustainability in Japanese culture through repair, reuse, and respect for objects.
