About the Artist
Paul Mitchnick was born in Hamilton Ontario. While in high school, he spent summers working in the steel factories where he learned to employ his hands with confidence. A graduate of the Film Production programme at York University, he was awarded a scholarship to the Banff School of Fine Arts Summer Photography programme.
Paul’s first film job was as a production assistant on Ivan Reitman’s film, “Cannibal Girls”. On that set, he met real film professionals and was attracted to the camera department.
Since then, Paul’s professional life has ranged from feature films, documentaries, corporate films and commercials in various camera department capacities – loader, focus puller, operator and Director of Photography. To his delight, much of this involved travel. All over the world. Always with a still camera.
Paul has had the good fortune to learn from many talented Directors and Oscar winning Directors of Photography. The most important lesson — the how of doing things is less important than the why.
