Echoes Within brings together the work of Rula Albakri, Thuraya Amin, and Layla Nowras in an exploration of inner landscapes expressed through colour, gesture, and layered surfaces. Each artist approaches painting as a space where emotion and memory take form, allowing colour and movement to reveal subtle states of transformation and presence. Together, the works create a quiet dialogue—inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and discover the echoes that resonate beneath the surface.
Rula Albakri
Rula Albakri is a Canadian visual artist based in Mississauga, Ontario, whose love for drawing began in childhood, with a deep focus on portraying women’s faces as reflections of lived emotion. Each face she creates evolves gradually, shifting and transforming until it embodies the feelings of the moment. Her process is intimate and intuitive – she engages with her subjects as companions, expressing herself through conversation, music, and quiet reflection. Working in oil on canvas, acrylics, and digital art, Rula is drawn to beauty in all its forms. She is inspired by strong color, bold contrast, and emotional intensity, building her work through multiple layers until the image feels complete. She is an active participant in the local art community with consistent involvement in group exhibitions, cultural festivals, gallery shows, auctions, and juried art competitions. Thuraya Amin
Thuraya Amin is a Canadian contemporary artist who works primarily in oil on canvas. With a lifelong passion for art, she studied art and art history throughout her schooling and developed a strong foundation in visual expression. After a long break from painting, Thuraya returned to her practice with renewed focus, exploring themes of emotion, memory, and the human experience. Her work spans oils, acrylics, and charcoal, each medium allowing her to capture ideas and stories with depth and sensitivity. She currently creates from her home studio, producing expressive, narrative-driven pieces that reflect moments from life and inner worlds.

Layla Nowras
Layla Nowras, I was born in Baghdad, Iraq, the city that was my profound inspiration, started painting in my early years. Throughout time, Baghdad played a role in crafting my artistic path. My distinctive style was polished and featured during my schoolwork at the Institute of fine arts/ Baghdad. Though the last twenty years distanced me away from my beloved Baghdad, this increased my eagerness to visualize Baghdad as I always knew it, a city full of history, serenity, and simplicity. This was faithfully exhibited in my paintings and on canvas.
