Pattern as Personal Language: Motifs, Rhythm, and Design

Thursday, November 19 to Thursday, November 26, 2026
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Sessions: 2 Thursdays
Instructor: Veronika Bondarenko
Level: Beginner
Location: At Centre

A drawing and mixed-media workshop where learners develop their own visual language through repeated motifs, symbols, colour, and pattern. Participants will begin by creating a “motif library” inspired by folk art, nature, textiles, embroidery, architecture, memory, family objects, maps, or everyday surroundings, and then explore repetition, variation, mirroring, rhythm, balance, and interruption to build a finished patterned composition. Learners will understand pattern as a meaningful structure – something that can feel like a personal map, visual code, textile, or symbolic field. Veronika, BA in Fine Art, OCAD, and Drawing and Painting Specialist will provide step-by-step support and a presentation of examples in historical and contemporary art with an emphasis on specific artists for inspiration.
