Contemporary Chromatics

Sunday, January 24, 2027
10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Sessions: 1 Sunday
Instructor: Kathryn Boyd
Level: All Levels
Location: At Centre

Explore the foundational principles of colour interactions and transform them onto dynamic, contemporary abstract art. Unlocking the power of colour requires an understanding of how hues interact, shift, and influence one another. To boost your creative potential, this hands-on session bridges art history with modern studio practice. Students will learn about theories in colour contrasts, experiment with colour relativity and will see what it takes to achieve visual harmony. Through guided exercises and plenty of support from artist instructor Kathryn, participants will enjoy experimenting with colour mixing and building chromatic schemes and will apply these principals directly to contemporary art by creating fluid acrylic pours. By controlling pigment density and medium behaviour, participants will learn how artistic concepts come to life. Kathryn will bring participants much closer to using colour in more meaningful and informed ways while creating a fun and accessible environment of creative discovery.
