Small Worlds: Narrative Still Life and Object Storytelling

Thursday, November 5 to Thursday, November 12, 2026
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Sessions: 2 Thursdays
Instructor: Veronika Bondarenko
Level: Beginner
Location: At Centre

Learners begin by writing a short prompt or choosing a story idea, then select and arrange objects that visually carry that mood or plotline. The first step in this fantastic workshop is to create a still life as a small constructed world. Participants will build their own object-based scene using items such as vessels, fabric, books, fruit, flowers, mirrors, boxes, glass, handwritten notes, personal objects, or found materials. Each arrangement could suggest a memory, a character, a season, a scene, quiet ritual, or small narrative. Veronika Bondarenko, BFA, OCAD will guide the group through composition, lighting and shadow, cropping, symbolism, and atmosphere before participants create one resolved drawing or painting from life. The focus would be on helping learners understand how ordinary objects can become expressive through arrangement and observation. For a materials list, please check our website.
