Transposing an Image from Real Life to Abstraction, Open Media

Monday, February 22 to Monday, March 1, 2027
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Sessions: 2 Mondays
Instructor: Vitaly Medvedovsky
Level: All Levels
Location: At Centre

Participants will investigate a figurative or still-life image and explore the exciting process of transposing their subject from real life to abstraction on canvas. With the guidance and support of artist instructor Vitaly, students will practice looking beyond the objective, instead identifying the structural elements of their image, such as shape, colour and movement. Learners will grow to understand the liberating process of detaching from their original image and using their intuition to creatively alter their compositions in order to create balanced, harmonious and dynamic artworks. Vitaly will offer plenty of examples to inspire the group while providing one-on-one support. This session is for artists and learners of all levels including beginners who are keen to grasp the concepts of abstraction. Vitaly Medvedovsky, MFA, Painting, Concordia University and BFA, OCAD. Vitaly has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Stuttgart, and Berlin. He has received numerous awards, and has extensive teaching experience.
